Louw's status confirmed amid legal dispute

Asked about the decisions Louw makes in his capacity as acting municipal manager, including ongoing disciplinary matters, the municipality said it does not comment on internal disciplinary processes.
GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality has confirmed that Godfrey Louw is currently serving as the acting municipal manager, following a valid resolution taken by Council.
The clarification follows claims circulating on social media suggesting that the municipality is preparing to take the national Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs to court over its decision not to approve Louw's appointment as municipal manager.
In response to several queries, the municipal spokesperson, Chantèl Edwards, confirmed that a legal dispute does exist, but said the matter is currently under consideration, making it inappropriate to comment further at this stage.
She also explained that the position of acting municipal manager is an interim appointment and, as such, has not been advertised for external candidates.
Concerns have been raised publicly about the potential cost of legal action and whether such expenses could amount to wasteful expenditure.
In response, the municipality said it acts within the framework of applicable legislation at all times and considers all available legal options responsibly and with the necessary financial oversight.
