Mossel Bay’s Flying Eagles FC soar in regionals

MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The newly promoted team from Mossel Bay, Flying Eagles FC, enjoyed their first-ever victory in the Safa Eden Hollywoodbets Regional Men's League.
The team sank Bitou Young Pirates 2-1 in an exciting encounter in Ext 23, Mossel Bay, on Saturday 24 January.
The Eagles started the game at a fast pace, hunting for their first goal. Both teams played well. The home team's Sibongile Zuzani netted the first goal from the penalty spot, putting his side in the lead.
The first half ended on 1-0, the Young Pirates trailing.
The second half saw both teams pushing for more opportunities inside the box. The Young Pirates got their penalty and levelled the score. The home side, however, kept on pressing, throwing every ball to the flanks.
In the later stages of the game, the Eagles were awarded a second penalty. Zuzani came through for his team again and secured the win with 2-1.
With bragging rights in hand, the fixture ended on a high note for the Flying Eagles.
In their second game, however, the Eagles went down 2-0 against the high-flying Oriented Birds.
The Eagles are in the top eight on the log. The team has played six games - one victory, two draws and three losses.
Coach commentsHero Nkabinde, the Flying Eagles' head coach, said the win against the Young Pirates definitely gave them a major boost - they needed to improve their position on the log table.
He said the boys had played their socks off, and by supplying good football, asserted themselves and gave no room for the Pirates players to string their passes.
Nkabinde said it brought back the confidence they were looking for going into the second game of the afternoon. The win over the Pirates brought relief as they climbed the log to a position above the precarious relegation zone. He believes they can reach the top positions, but they need to work on their fitness to protect their Regional Men's League status.
