Indoor Hockey growing in Oudtshoorn
OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The PSi Elephants Indoor Hockey hosted a well-attended and engaging Dutch hockey clinic at Langenhoven Gimnasium in Oudtshoorn on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 January.
The clinic was hosted by SportWays and Princess Hockey and included eight local qualified coaches, three technical directors, and one technical co-ordinator.
A total of 61 children between the ages of 11 and 18 participated in the clinic. Parents from Knysna, Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn, and surrounding areas brought their children to attend, highlighting the regional impact of the initiative.
The Oudtshoorn Elephants Hockey Club was established in 2024 and has shown exceptional growth in a short period of time. In its first year, the franchise successfully took four teams to the PSI Nationals in Cape Town, with an additional team representing the Knysna Elephants.
In 2025, the club expanded further, growing to five teams from Oudtshoorn. The club aims to take U11 and U12 junior teams to the PSI Nationals at the beginning of July this year, following the great success of previous national participation.
According to the head coach, De Willton Lombard, the clinic was a huge success.
"It was a very hot day, so we alternated activities by using the swimming pool, which the kids really enjoyed. We are also considering hosting clinics at night when it's cooler. The feedback was extremely positive," Lombard concluded.
Lombard added that they will host an upgraded coaches' course for indoor hockey.
Kids who want to join the Oudtshoorn Elephants can contact Nadine Hughes on 082 0593 734.
Players of all ability levels are welcome to join.
