GEORGE NEWS - Four men are behind bars following a major drug bust in Beaufort West, where police confiscated dagga with an estimated street value of R1,3 million during a targeted crime combatting operation.

The vigilance of Central Karoo K9 members led to the arrests after police acted on information received from the public. The suspects have already made their first court appearance and were remanded in custody.

On Monday 2 February at about 11:00, Central Karoo K9 members, the Flying Squad and Provincial Organised Crime Investigators attached to narcotics pounced on a truck along the N1 in the industrial area of Beaufort West.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 53 bags of dagga concealed inside. The consignment was confiscated and two occupants were arrested on charges of dealing in drugs.

The investigation continued the following day 3 February when police were led to a house in Stoltzhoekweg, Beaufort West.

A Mazda parked at the premises was searched and two bags of dagga were found hidden in the back of the vehicle. The drugs were confiscated and two further suspects, aged 30 and 58, a father and son, were arrested.

All four accused have appeared in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ Court and are expected to return on Tuesday 10 February for a formal bail application.
