GEORGE NEWS AND GALLERY - There was great excitement yesterday morning at Carpe Diem School, where principal Elzeth Grobler and six teachers had their hair cut or shaved in support of cancer awareness.
The event, which takes place every three to four years, drew enthusiastic support from learners and staff alike.
All ponytails were donated to Cansa to be used in the making of wigs for cancer patients.
Grobler and her team shared the special moment with learners in the school hall on World Cancer Day, 4 February.
Adding a personal touch to the occasion, Grobler’s son, hairdresser Ian Grobler, cut his mother’s hair.
Teacher Karen Fourie shaved her hair with a number one blade, while Zelda Oosthuizen opted for a number six.

Two hairdressers from Michelangelo Hair Academy, Elsa Steyn and Lara Muller, also participated in the event.
Grobler challenged other schools in George to follow their example and take part in similar initiatives in support of cancer patients.
